ECHOES OF THE NIGHT for Percussion Quartet (2004)
III. Appassionato molto, attacca
Night is tranquil and beautiful, but it is mysterious and can be frightening sometimes.  ECHOES OF THE NIGHT has five brief yet distinctive movements.  Each movement reflects an exquisite night at the MacDowell Colony where I had a residency during the cold winter of 2003.   As a composer, I tried to portray the beautiful starry and often windy snowy nights musically.  I love night because it speaks to me and leads me to a fantasy world of sound.  My music is intensely personal, and I hope it speaks for itself.

ECHOES OF THE NIGHT was commissioned by and dedicated to my dear friend Anthony J. Cirone, Chair of the Percussion Department at Indiana University in Bloomington.  The premiere performance was on November 8, 2004 at the Indiana University Percussion Ensemble Concert.
